Back to Work

I started back to Work on August 8th...the week after we moved into the house here in Memphis. I actually had to travel to Chicago my first week back for a corporate conference so I left a day early to go visit with Heidi. It was great to get to spend time with her & Matt and see their place which was AMAZING!!! I can't wait to go visit again and hope I get to sometime soon!

My conference was Monday - Wednesday and it was actually a really nice way to get re-integrated into working after being off for my maternity leave. The best part was actually getting to enjoy the conference without having to worry about all of the work that wasn't getting done because I didn't have any work to do yet! I was distracted throughout the week because of all of the Rat drama happening at home and pumping while on the road is still a huge undertaking, but overall I survived.

My flight home to Memphis Wednesday was cancelled so they bumped us all to a much later flight so I had to kill 6+ hours at the Chicago airport and got home around 11:30pm...that was a huge bummer and I didn't know it then, but unfortunately it was just a little taste of the travel problems I had yet to come. Over the next 2 weeks I would have 3 flights into the Memphis airport - all 3 on different airlines and all 3 significantly delayed or cancelled.

I had missed Madison Claire and the buddy so when Ryan brought her down to sleep with us that night around midnight, I wanted to say hello. BIG mistake as I essentially woke her up and she proceeded to be awake until around 3am, talking, singing where is thumbkin, and tossing and turning in the bed. LESSON LEARNED for this tired mama that just wanted to say hello and then go to sleep!

Overall, being back at work hasn't been too bad. It's a busy time for us as we push to meet our hiring goals by year end so there have been days where I've felt incredibly overwhelmed but given that I'm coming up on my 9 year anniversary with Stockamp (CRAZY!!!!) going back to work is just like riding a bike so it's been a fairly seamless transition.

I wish I could say the same for Madison Claire. She has had a much harder time then I had anticipated with me being back at work. It makes sense now that I think about it..she got used to me being around for 3 months and even though I had the baby and there was the craziness with the move, I was still around and available to her. Now that I'm back to work and I can't be with her, she's really missing me. When she knows it's time for me to start working in the morning, she'll come grab my hand and say "come play with Ma-Ma..come on" and pull me towards the playroom. If I tell her that "Mommy has to work" she will respond with "I work too??". HEART BREAKER!!!!

I know we will all settle into our new routine and as usual, I'm thankful to have a job where I can control my schedule and be able to spend time with the kids during the day. If only I could not work and still have a nanny...oh wouldn't that be the life!! One can dream!!!
